The teachers at Lake House Academy have a love for rekindling a girl’s desire to learn. Lake House Academy uses positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS). The major tenets of PBIS include a focus on redesigning the learning environment to promote a positive school climate, increasing instructional time, increasing academic achievement and building a culture of competence. Lake House Academy also embraces positive discipline. Positive discipline emphasizes mutual respect, seeing mistakes as learning opportunities and collaborative problem-solving.

At Lake House, we want each student to develop the capacity, skills and strategies to further her educational process and rediscover the joy of academic success.

The issues our girls have faced may have caused common problems such as lack of motivation, school avoidance, tardiness, and excessive sick days which contribute to academic skill deficits. At Lake House, we want each student to develop the capacity, skills and strategies to further her own educational process and rediscover the joy of academic success. Our academic program includes:

  • Middle school grades 4 to 8 and high school grades 9 and 10. Our academic school year is August – June. However, we enroll students throughout the school year and integrate each girl into an appropriate academic level. Our Summer School program is June-August, which may include content enrichment, credit recovery, academic remediation and high school elective credits.
  • Individualized support for each student to address unique academic and social/emotional needs
  • Small class size to promote individualized instruction, curriculum differentiation and executive function skills
  • Experiential learning and content enrichment
  • Content and special education certified teachers

Lake House Academy is accredited academically through the National Independent Private Schools Association (NIPSA) and follows all academic standards for the State of North Carolina.
